2009 – 2012

Air Transport

Assisted in determining the technical architecture and leading the development team in implementing the system using service-oriented architecture (SOA).

Client Needs:

While Hactl’s legacy system had served them for over 10 years, business changes were driving the need for an advanced, up-to-date system to handle the tonnage of thousands of planes. This had to be implemented as quickly as possible without impacting the current operational environment.

Project Goals:
  • Ease of use.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of daily transactions.
  • Support for future development.
  • Reduced operating and IT costs.
  • Improved transaction efficiency.
Solution Description:

Qualicom deployed more than 20 consultants, including Architects and Developers, to the project team of 110 IT professionals. They worked effectively with IBM, Oracle and Hactl to develop the new system.

The solution was built on Sun Microsystem and IBM enterprise-class servers, leveraging Oracle and Adobe technologies such as Flex, Application Server, Database, Coherence, Data Integrator, Data Guard, Active Data Guard, and Enterprise Manager.

The system incorporated industry best practices and was architected in a way that facilitated business expansion for new port operations.

Benefits to the Client:

The system was successfully implemented in 2012 and is now a well-recognized cargo management system by the industry. All 91 airline customers are now using the new technology.

  • It is handling more than a million transactions a day from more than 4000 users.
  • It facilitates e-Air Waybill and e-Freight, contributing to a paperless air cargo business.
  • It has the agility to plug in new mobile modules, providing extensibility to capture new business opportunities.
  • It has won five awards, including the Retail and Supply Chain Management category at the APICTA Awards 2013 and the Hong Kong ICT Awards Best Business (Application) Gold Award.
